Clutter is defined as having an excessive amount of things in the home or workplace. The excessive things are either unneeded or unwanted. They may be organized or they may not be.
Hoarding is the term used by psychologists and connotes a higher degree of clutter.
There are two main groups of people who are cluttered: chronically cluttered since childhood and cluttered when a life-changing event may have occurred (death of a parent or spouse). Many of our reasons for hanging on to clutter are, at their core about fear: fear that we won't be up to to future challenges, and fear of confronting our regrets about the past. Clutter can be comforting; it acts as a buffer between us and reality.
Healing and growth comes from from recognizing your feelings, no matter what they are. If thoughts of clutter clearing suddenly turn into feelings of anger, resentment, or anxiety, that's a sign to pause and reflect on what deeper feelings are being triggered.
I can help a "clutter/hoarder" with a program that encompasses both hypnotherapy and organizational techniques, in a nurturing, supportive and non-judgmental environment.
